The CMU Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Festival is officially this weekend! Soon, almost 200 teams will descend onto Finch Fieldhouse and the festivities will begin, but before that can happen, there is one final prep week!
On Saturday and Sunday, all CMU Gus Macker crew members will wear a shirt representing 50 years of Gus Macker, with the 14 logos of all CMU Gus Mackers (pictured left).
This past week, the crew was able to go over some of the final details, such as the venue map, the rain plan, the Opening Ceremonies national anthem singer (who is a fellow CMU student!) and more. When you’re working with the CMU Gus Macker class, no detail is too small to consider!
The CMU Gus Macker weekend is much more than just your average basketball tournament, it is a whole festival! There will be specialty contests both Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday having a free throw contest and Sunday having a 3-point contest. Both events will be taking place from 9am to 4pm, and each are $2 to play. There will also be the famous Dunk Contest, but no youth Dunk Contest, at 5:30pm on Saturday evening.
Another CMU Gus Macker favorite is the Do-or-Die shot. The crew officially learned who the shooter would be at last week’s class and we think he is the perfect choice! Here is the hint: he is the Maverick of CMU!
Threads by Gus will be open inside of Finch Fieldhouse throughout tournament weekend selling their merch. Spectators and other guests are welcomed to come and perchase the boldest colors on the court!
Your crew is working hard at making sure the Opening Ceremonies dance is good enough to knock anyone’s socks off! As the full dance has now been revealed, your next shot at seeing this crew perform is during 8am ! We look forward to seeing you all there #talktomegus!
